Role Model

If you as a parent are competence in speaking Mandarin, you should be a role model for your child.  If you are not, expose your child to someone who can.

Apart from being a conservationist, it is crucial to be an active listener.  Provide quality books, music and videos, which plays in Mandarin can be helpful in stimulate the language development.

Tapping into their interest

Take note of what interest them?  What are they enthusiastic about?  Be it a love of animals, dance or arts; make some effort to support such interests using Mandarin. 

Cultural Exchanges

 
One of the ways to learn a language is to visit a place where it majorly used.  Arrange a holiday trip to China or Taiwan where your child can explore the language and understand its culture.

Friends

Children of the same age range are the best teachers.   Surround your child with those who speak fluent Mandarin. 

Praise 

Often parent complaint even to their child that their Mandarin is not up to their expectation.  Such negative comment will bring down their confident and will eventually reject the language completely.  Children should always be praised no matter how their standing is.  When they encouraged within a positive environment, they feel supported and would bring enjoyment to their learning hence enhance their desire to speak Mandarin.
